From the campsite it is only a short train ride into Berlin, Germany\u2019s capital city, where you can visit the Reichstag, the seat of the German Parliament, the Brandenburg gate, or enjoy the museums on the \u201cMuseumsinsel\u201d, which is also a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can also visit Checkpoint Charlie, the only border crossing in Berlin during the cold war. Potsdam itself also has plenty to offer and the castle and gardens of Sanssouci are also a UNESCO World Heritage site.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Day 4: Potsdam \u2013 Spreewald<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We leave the Berlin region and travel south-east to the UNESCO Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. The Spreewald Forest is a one-of-a-kind stretch of land in Germany with the Spree River branching out into hundreds of smaller streams surrounded by woods, meadows and fields making up a unique and mystical water maze. On route there you can stop at Tropical Islands, Europe&#8217;s largest tropical holiday resort with several different swimming pools, a tropical forest and beaches. It is housed in the world\u2019s largest self-supporting hall in a former Zeppelin hangar.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Day 5: Spreewald<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Today we explore the Spreewald and as a group event we will take a guided punting trip on a traditional flat bottomed punting boat through some of the streams and canals that crisscross this jungle like forest and marshland. While in this area you can try the famous Spreewald gherkins, or admire some of the hand painted Easter eggs manufactured by the Sorb ladies.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Day 6: Spreewald \u2013 Upper Lusatian Region<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We continue our journey via Cottbus to the Upper Lusatian Region. Here you can visit the castle and gardens in Bad Muskau, a landscaped park and UNESCO World Heritage site astride the Neisse River and the border between Germany and Poland. You can also stop at Germany\u2019s largest Rhododendron park in Kromlau.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Day 7: Upper Lusatian Region \u2013 Saxon Switzerland<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Our destination today is the Saxon Switzerland National Park. On the way you can visit G\u00f6rlitz, Germany\u2019s most eastern city or Bautzen with its historic city centre and the \u201cStasi prison\u201d which has been turned into a museum.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Day 8: Saxon Switzerland<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Today you can explore the Saxon Switzerland National Park with the famous Bastei, 400 sq km of hiking routes and stunning sandstone formations that look quite unlike anything else in Europe. The Golden city of Prague is also only a 2 hour drive from here.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Day 9: Saxon Switzerland \u2013 Dresden<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We only have a short drive to the next campsite from where you can take a hop-on hop-off bus into the city of Dresden. On the way you can visit one of the many castles and gardens, for example the fortress K\u00f6nigstein, Germany\u2019s oldest barracks or Schloss Pillnitz.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Day 10: Dresden<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Dresden is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and has been restored to its former glory after being destroyed by the Allied bombings in WWII. There are plenty of palaces, churches, museums and stately buildings to visit including the Zwinger, the Renaissance city palace, the Semper Opera house and the Frauenkirche. The best way to enjoy the striking city silhouette is from a steamboat on the river Elbe.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><u><\/u><strong><u>Day 11: Dresden \u2013 Colditz<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Today <span lang=\"EN-GB\">we travel to the city of Colditz south of Leipzig. On route stop at the porcelain city of Meissen. If you are not a porcelain lover, go to the historic city of Leipzig where you can also visit the impressive monument to the Battle of the Nations. The battle involved 600,000 soldiers making it the largest battle in Europe prior to WWI.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Day 12: Colditz<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here we recommend visiting Colditz Castle the \u201cescape-proof\u201d WWII PoW camp. Embark on an emotive journey through time with an interactive tablet. The legendary escape attempts by POWs such as Pat Reid, the author of \u00bbThe Colditz Story\u00ab, still exert a special fascination today. You can test at an interactive experience station whether you would have succeeded in escaping with the famous Colditz glider. Alternatively relax at the campsite.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Day 13: <\/u><\/strong><strong><u>Colditz <\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u2013<\/u><\/strong><strong><u> Saale-Unstrut Region<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today we travel to the Saale-Unstrut wine region. In the evening, we will have a wine tasting and a visit of the wine cellar, which is in walking distance of our campsite. On route you can visit the city of Naumburg with its impressive historic town centre and cathedral. Alternatively try the most popular East German \u201cChampagne\u201d in Freyburg.<\/p>\r\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Day 14: <\/u><\/strong><strong><u>Saale-Unstrut Region \u2013 Erfurt\/Weimar Region<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\r\n<p>\r\n\r\n<\/p>\r\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On our way to the last campsite, you have the chance to visit Jena, which is famous for its precision glass manufacturing, the company Zeiss and the German Optical Museum. Alternatively visit the two historic cities of Weimar, home of Goethe and Schiller, and Erfurt with the Cathedral and the medieval bridge \u201dKr\u00e4merbr\u00fccke\u201d, lined with inhabited, half-timbered buildings on both sides. There was a good mix of cities, towns and also countryside. We enjoyed all the included activities but the highlight was the visit to Colditz castle. The campsites were close to the towns with good public transport available to get there. We particularly enjoyed the wine-tasting and the visit to Colditz Castle. Michael and Audrey have been good hosts, nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond to answer any queries. on the recent Eastern Germany Tour.\u00a0 The tour was well organized, very interesting and all the stress was taken out of wondering where you were going next or what you might see.\u00a0 It was all in the tour book and pointed out by Michael at our evening meeting before we moved onto each new site.<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We all mixed together, and we are going on the Norway tour in
