After the Western Motorhome Show in Malvern, we stopped as usual to visit family in Milton Keynes and then returned home on Friday the 23rd of August. This meant we had four days to unload the tent and all the other show equipment, get our hair cut and get ready for the next two back-to-back tours: our “Impressive Italian Lakes and Cities“, and “Captivating Croatia” tours. We left home again on the following Wednesday to drive up to Calais, where we met 3 couples who had booked the Calais Pick-up for our Italian tour. We offer this service to anybody who perhaps hasn’t driven on the continent before, or maybe hasn’t done so for a long time and feels more confident if they are being accompanied on their way to the start of a tour. Two of the couples that we met in Calais also asked us, if we could book the pet lounge on the ferry for them, which for us was a first, and they were very happy with the facilities. Most customers that travel with us, book the tour only and make their own travel arrangements to get to the starting point of the tour. This way they can choose the best ferry crossing route for them or book the channel tunnel, which is also good if travelling with a dog, because the dog can stay with you in your motorhome.
Our Italy tour started on Sunday in Locarno on the northern shores of Lake Maggiore, but we met the customers that had booked the Calais Pickup service on Friday morning because it is a three-day drive down to Locarno, with additional overnight stops in Luxembourg (where you can fill up with cheap petrol) and in the southern part of the Black Forest.
The Malvern show was very successful, and we met many of our existing customers and spoke to many people who were interested in next year’s tours, especially the tours to the sun, i.e. “Timeless Tuscany” and the two back-to-back tours in September, “Spectacular Spanish Northern Coast” and “Perfect Portugal”. For 2025 we will only have two tours where we offer the Calais Pickup service, abut these are both ideal “starter” tours: “Springtime in Holland” and “Majestic Rhine & Moselle Rivers”. Even though we received some bookings during and after the show, at the moment we still have availability on all 2025 tours 😊.
