The Escorted Motorhome Tour
We will start the tour in Aachen, the first UNESCO World Heritage Site on the tour. We will then drive along the Rhine visiting Cologne, Koblenz, St. Goar, Mainz and finally Rüdesheim, where we will take part in “Rhine in Flames” joining a striking fleet of illuminated riverboats to watch numerous firework displays and “burning castles”. After driving back along the other side of the Rhine valley, we will join the beautiful Moselle in Koblenz and stay in some of the most famous towns like Cochem and Bernkastel-Kues. In Trier we will stay at a vineyard and have a wine tasting and guided tour of the wine cellar followed by a 3-course dinner before travelling to Luxemburg. Here you will have the opportunity to explore the city, see the palace of the Grand Duke, or visit any of the other numerous attractions.
Day 1: Aachen
In Aachen we will have a group dinner in order to get to know each other. Aachen is situated directly on the border with Belgium and the Netherlands and is Germanys most westerly city. The Aachen Cathedral was the first German building to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List
Day 2: Aachen – Cologne
Our destination today is Cologne with it’s splendid Cathedral. From the campsite you can cycle along the Rhine or take a short boat trip to the city centre
Day 3: Cologne
Today you can go into the city for some sightseeing or shopping. Visit the cathedral, or one of Cologne’s many interesting museums, like the chocolate museum, or the Roman-Germanic museum. Don´t forget to try some of the famous Koelsch beer
Day 4: Cologne – Koblenz
Today we will move on south to Koblenz, one of the most beautiful and oldest towns in Germany where the Moselle meets the Rhine. Take the spectacular cable car up to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, one of Europe’s largest fortifications, walk through the beautiful grounds and enjoy the breath-taking views
Day 5: Koblenz – Sankt Goar
On this stretch of the tour we are entering the most beautiful part of the Rhine valley with its winding roads along the river and many castles situated on the hills in the vineyards. Stop in any of the wine villages along the route or visit one of the castles.
Day 6: Sankt Goar
Our campsite is situated on the Rhine opposite the “Loreley”, a slate cliff, shrouded in legend, towering above the narrowest part of the river. Enjoy the day, relax at the river and watch the boats go by or go for a cycle ride.
Day 7: Sankt Goar – Rüdesheim
We will continue along the Rhine and you can stop in Mainz, the historical 2000 year old city, with its beautiful old town, Roman temple, royal palace, cathedral and Marc Chagall‘s blue stained-glass. On arrival in Rüdesheim, one of the most picturesque towns on the Rhine, you can spend the day exploring the vineyards, woodlands, or the banks of the Rhine, or take the cable car up to the “Niederwald Memorial” and enjoy the wonderful view of Rüdesheim and the Rhine valley. Afterwards relax with a glass of wine in one of the town´s many bars or try the famous Rüdesheimer coffee
Day 8: Rüdesheim
Today is free at your disposal. You could take a trip to the Eberbach Monastry, film location of “The Name of the Rose” starring Sean Connery and now well-known for its wines. In the evening we will join one of 50 ships on the Rhine, which form a parade for the annual “Rhine in Flames”. After a 2-course meal we will experience numerous fabulous firework displays, “burning castles”, and be part of a striking fleet of illuminated riverboats
Day 9: Rüdesheim – Cochem
Today we will drive back up the other side of the Rhine valley towards Koblenz where we will join the road along the Moselle to Cochem
Day 10: Cochem
Here you can walk through the beautiful town with its half-timbered houses, visit Cochem Castle, the largest hill castle on the Moselle or take the chair lift for a fantastic panoramic view. Alternatively you could take a trip to the fairytale Eltz Castle that dates back to the 12th century
Day 11: Cochem – Bernkastel-Kues
Today we will continue our journey along the Moselle, passing the beautiful town of Traben-Trabach, which is always worth a stop. After arrival at the campsite you can visit the old town of Bernkastel-Kues and try some of the local wine, stroll through the vineyards or go for a bike ride along the river
Day 12: Bernkastel-Kues – Trier
Our destination today is Trier, Germany’s oldest town and home to many impressive Roman remains including the Porta Nigra, a fortified gate dating back to the 2nd century. We will be staying at a vineyard within walking distance of the town, where in the evening we will be having a wine tasting, a guided tour of the wine cellar and a 3-course dinner
Day 13: Trier – Luxemburg
Today we will take the short drive through the more open part of the Moselle valley to Luxembourg. Alternatively you can drive along the Saar river and enjoy the panoramic view of the large river loop at the Saarschleife. Our campsite in Luxembourg is ideal for walking or biking excursions, or you can take a bus to the city
Day 14: Luxemburg
You will have the full day to visit the capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The Unesco-listed Old Town is one of Europe’s most scenic capitals, thanks largely to its unusual setting, draped across the deep gorges of the Alzette and Pétrusse rivers. It’s full of weird spaces, tunnels, and surprising nooks to explore
