The Escorted Motorhome Tour

Our first stop is Bruges in northern Belgium, where you can visit this medieval fairy-tale city and its Christmas market offering traditional Belgian Christmas delights. Our next destination is Valkenburg in Holland, where we will stop two days. Go to the biggest, oldest and most visited underground Christmas market in Europe and see the Christmas parade in Valkenburg. Maybe use one day for an excursion to the Christmas market in Aachen. From Valkenburg we will travel to Frankfurt and to one of the largest and most beautiful Christmas markets in Germany. Our next stop is the Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, probably the most famous Christmas market in Germany, where you will be enchanted by the special and festive atmosphere of the city. We then travel to Rothenburg which at Christmas time is transformed into a winter wonderland. We will spend the last two days of the tour in Strasbourg, France and visit the oldest Christmas market in Europe, regularly voted one of the “Best Christmas Markets”.

Tour Map Europe's Best Christmas Markets 2018

Day 1: Bruges

We will meet in Bruges, also known as “Venice of the North”. Spend the afternoon exploring the city centre. Stroll through picturesque cobbled lanes and photogenic market squares alive with festivities and glowing with Christmas lights. In the evening we will have a group dinner in order to get to know each other.

Day 2: Bruges – Valkenburg

Today we will travel to Holland. In Valkenburg visit the largest, oldest and most visited underground Christmas market in Europe. You will be amazed by the beautiful settings and decors, which are in complete harmony with the countless stalls offering Christmas gifts and other luxuries. The spacious, long-drawn-out galleries invite you to while away the hours against a musical backdrop in a Christmas cave.

Day 3: Valkenburg

Use this day to see the historic town of Valkenburg during daylight, or go for an excursion to the city of Aachen, which is only a short drive away. Every year before Christmas the squares and streets round the Cathedral and the Aachen Town Hall are transformed into a paradise of lights and colours, festive sounds and seductive smells. But do not miss the evening Christmas parade in Valkenburg.

Day 4: Valkenburg – Frankfurt

Today we travel to Frankfurt. It has one of the largest Christmas markets in all of Germany. The elaborate and creative stand decorations, the scenic surroundings on the Römerberg and St Paul’s Square and the huge Christmas tree combine to also make it one of Germany’s most beautiful.

Day 5: Frankfurt – Nuremberg

Today we travel to Nuremberg, Bavaria’s second largest city and home to the world-famous Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt. The Christmas market is unrivalled in its beauty, traditions and atmosphere. Enjoy the aroma of mulled wine and gingerbread and the sound of brass ensembles and children´s choirs.

Day 6: Nuremberg

Today you have more time to visit the city. Don’t forget to try Nuremberg’s culinary speciality – the original Nuremburg Bratwurst. This irresistible finger-long sausage is grilled on stands all over the market. Take a tour in the yellow Christmas stage coach through the old town and enjoy the view of the colourful activity at the Christmas market.

Day 7: Nuremberg – Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Before we leave Nuremberg, we will visit an historic Gingerbread bakery and try freshly baked Gingerbread! Then we travel to the world-famous medieval town Rothenburg ob der Tauber with its picturesque half-timbered houses and cobblestone streets. At Christmas time it transforms itself into a fairy-tale winter wonderland. Visit the Christmas “Reiterlesmarkt”, treat yourself to a glass of mulled wine, enjoy an original Rothenburg Snowball, or, if you have a heartier appetite, satisfy your hunger with a grilled sausage or roast chestnuts.

Day 8: Rothenburg ob der Tauber – Strasbourg

Today we leave Germany and travel to the heart of Europe. Strasburg’s Christkindelsmärik in Place Broglie is the oldest Christmas market in Europe and part of the largest Christmas market with 300 stalls spread out over 12 locations under the glow of the city’s illuminations. You will find all kinds of things here, including craftwork, food and drink and traditional Christmas decorations.

Day 9: Strasbourg

Today you can spend the day visiting the city with its mesmerising Gothic cathedral and twisting alleys lined with crooked half-timbered houses. Enjoy a meal in a cosy “winstub” (Alsatian tavern) by the canal in Petite France; and marvel at how a city that does Christmas markets and gingerbread so well can also be home to the glittering EU Quarter and France’s second-largest student population
