Newsletter: New tour 2018 „Amazing Alpine Roads“
Saturday was the last day of our tour along Germany’s Romantic Road. We travelled through many medieval towns and cities and on Wednesday arrived in Schwangau, where we took the Tegelberg cable car in bright sunshine to the mountain station at 1,730 m and enjoyed fabulous views of the Alps. We also visited Neuschwanstein, King Ludwigs fairytale castle and had time to explore the surrounding countryside by bike or by foot. Although this tour is not available in 2018, we visit Schwangau during our new tour “Amazing Alpine Roads” along the German/Austrian border from Lake Constance to Salzburg in Austria.
This tour will take us through lush Alpine meadows, gently rolling hills and green forests to sparkling lakes and craggy peaks, including the steep rocky terrain of Mount Zugspitze, Germany’s highest peak. We will visit some traditional Bavarian towns and have time to take a breathtaking bus journey to “Eagle’s Nest”, formerly Hitler’s home and southern headquarters. At Lake Tegernsee we will have a typical Bavarian Meal in the Benedictine Brewery and we will go on a boat trip on Lake Königssee, one of Germany’s most famous lakes and will hear the impressive echo from the trompeter on the boat.
We will finish the tour in Salzburg, Austria, the birth place of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The city centre is a world heritage site, with many picturesque squares, buildings and gardens, several of which were film locations for the „Sound of Music“.
