This Saturday, we will set off on our “Majestic Rhine & Moselle Rivers” tour, leaving just two more tours to be operated during the 2026 touring season. As many of you know, we do not run tours in August due to the school holiday period. At the end of August, we will return to the road with our final two adventures of the year: “Scenic Switzerland” and “Amazing Alpine Roads”.
In our last newsletter, we mentioned that availability on both tours was very limited. Since then, the “Amazing Alpine Roads” tour, taking place in the second half of September, has become fully booked.
The “Scenic Switzerland” tour, starting on Saturday, 29th August, was also close to selling out. However, due to three unfortunate cancellations caused by health issues, a small number of places have become available once again. This creates a wonderful opportunity for anyone who may have missed out previously. If you would like to travel together with friends, we may even be able to accommodate you as a group, depending on numbers. 😊
One of the main reasons for sending this newsletter is the current heatwave affecting much of Germany. Switzerland, with its higher elevations and mountain climate, offers a refreshing alternative. This coming Saturday, temperatures in Cologne—where our “Majestic Rhine & Moselle Rivers” tour begins—are expected to reach a sweltering 39°C. We have already advised our guests via WhatsApp to stock up on plenty of non-alcoholic drinks, particularly as shops remain closed on Sundays in Germany.
By comparison, temperatures in Lucerne, the starting point of our “Scenic Switzerland” tour, are forecast to reach a much more comfortable 31°C, while some of the higher mountain destinations on our itinerary will be considerably cooler. For example, Lauterbrunnen is expected to enjoy temperatures of around 20°C, providing perfect conditions for sightseeing and outdoor activities.
The timing of the “Scenic Switzerland” tour is ideal. Late summer often brings beautiful weather, while the main holiday crowds have already started to disperse, allowing us to experience Switzerland at a more relaxed pace.
Throughout the journey, we will stay near stunning lakes, including those in Lucerne and Geneva, offering excellent opportunities for a refreshing swim. In Bern, adventurous travellers can enjoy one of the city’s most beloved traditions: floating down the crystal-clear River Aare. Simply jump into the river and let the gentle current carry you towards the city swimming pool. 😊 For those who prefer to repeat the experience, a paved walkway alongside the river makes it easy to stroll back and enjoy another float downstream.
Of course, no Swiss adventure would be complete without exploring the breathtaking mountain landscapes. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to reach spectacular viewpoints using cable cars, cogwheel railways and mountain trains. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the chance to visit the famous “Top of Europe.” The Jungfraujoch railway station proudly holds this title, standing at an impressive 3,454 metres above sea level, making it the highest railway station in Europe.
And as the saying goes: “When in Rome, do as the Romans do.” In Switzerland, that means embracing one of the country’s most famous traditions—cheese making! Our special group event takes place in the renowned Emmental region, where we will participate in an authentic cheese-making workshop. Not only will we learn about the craft and history behind Swiss cheese production, but everyone will also receive a sample of their own cheese to take home as a memorable souvenir.
If you would like to secure one of the newly available places on this tour, we recommend not waiting too long. Bookings for the “Scenic Switzerland” tour will close in mid-July, as we need to provide the campsites with final participant numbers for our reserved pitches.
