It is now 10 days since we returned from the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show in Birmingham. And once again we did not make it to the Dreiländereck (The Three Country Point) of Germany / Holland / Belgium when we stopped in Kelmis. The reason for this can be seen at the picture above. When we wanted to leave the aire the police had blocked the road, as the aire was the meeting point for the local women’s carnival procession. It was a lot of fun for us, but we were stuck there for more than an hour and then had to make a detour in order to avoid the other roads the police had closed roads for the procession. But as we mentioned in our last newsletter, the “Dreiländereck” is very close to the starting point of our “Majestic Rhine & Moselle Rivers” tour, which starts in the UNESCO city of Aachen. Maybe we will make it then 😊.
During the show we had a lot of interest in the tours for our upcoming touring season and also received several bookings for 2026. As you might know, the booking deadline for any tour is six weeks before the tour begins. However, if we still have places available it may be possible to book a tour at shorter notice, just get in touch with us. The next tour where the booking deadline is approaching fast is our new tour “Timeless Tuscany” starting on May 15th. If you would like to get one of the remaining places, please book by the end of March.
Tuscany in central Italy is famous for many things, but of all its qualities, the countryside is perhaps its most remarkable feature. Whether you are walking the country lanes or driving winding roads to one of the hilltop towns, its hills, valleys and cypress trees always seem to arrange themselves into an exquisite view, each one more impressive than the next. Tuscany is also home to two world-famous cities of art, Florence and Siena, both packed with world-famous masterpieces, churches, museums and frescoes. Pisa and its stunning Square of Miracles and Lucca with its exquisite churches also have a wealth of treasures and should not be missed. However, there are many picturesque small and quiet towns with lots to see all around Tuscany, including San Gimignano and Monteriggioni (two beautifully restored walled Medieval towns), Volterra, Pienza and Arezzo that can be as rewarding as the major cities and will leave you just as speechless. We will either be stopping in those cities for one or two nights, or you will have the opportunity to visit them during the short daily drives, giving you ample time to stop and explore.
Tuscany is also home to some of Italy’s most popular wines, like the reds of Chianti and Montepulciano and the Brunello from Montalcino which are perfect accompaniments for the region’s best loved dishes. It’s a place where simple ingredients have pride of place, and Tuscany’s delicious tomatoes, unsalted bread and local olive oil are central to its cuisine. Enjoy simple dishes including a wide variety of meat and sauces, cured meats and the mouthwatering pasta and cheeses. This why we are staying for our group event at a vineyard in the Montalcino wine region with a visit of the wine cellar, wine tasting, and a typical Italian meal.
