Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

  • by

Every year in December we go to the Service Center of PhoeniX in Northern Bavaria to have the annual habitation check and a general service done on our motorhome. During this trip we also visit several Christmas markets and usually the Rothenburger Reiterlesmarkt is a must for us. But this year we were there on a Saturday and the Stellplatz/Aire was full of motorhomes as well as cars. So, we continued instead to Neustadt an der Aisch, where we walked from the Stellplatz across the pedestrian bridge to the old town where the Christmas market was being held. We were lucky, as that evening the regional brass orchestra gave a wonderful concert in the church, which we really enjoyed.

In Rothenburg, Audrey would normally have bought some sort of Christmas decoration in the magical Käthe Wohlfahrt Christmas shop in Rothenburg ob der Tauber. This is the flagship store of the chain of shops, open all year, selling German Christmas ornaments and decorations. But luckily there is also a branch in Rüdesheim, where we stay during our “Majestic Rhine and Moselle Rivers” tour, and I guess Audrey and some of our customers will be able to stock up there for Christmas 2026.

If you associate Christmas with the winter in the mountains, maybe our two mountain tours next year are also an interesting option for you. The “Amazing Alpine Roads” along the German and Austrian border and the “Scenic Switzerland” tour in the German and French speaking part of Switzerland. You will not encounter snow on the roads on these tours, but you could still see snow if you go up any of the many mountains with the cable car for example to the Zugspitze (2,962m above sea level), the highest mountain in Germany, or take the train to Europe’s highest train station on top of the Jungfraujoch at 3,454 masl departing close to our campsite in Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland. Of course you will come across many other scenic places on these tours.

You could visit Rothenburg ob der Tauber before the start or on the return journey of our “Amazing Alpine Roads” or “Scenic Switzerland” tours in September. Most likely you can get on the Stellplatz during this time of the year, but there is also a nice campsite which we can recommend and have used during our “Germany’s Romantic Road” and “Europe’s best Christmas Markets” tours. Unfortunately, these two tours are not in the programme in 2026.

The days between Christmas and New Year is also the time when many of you will start thinking about new projects for the upcoming year and is an opportunity to discuss your holiday plans with friends and family and make final decisions on destinations for next year. If you are interested in a particular tour and haven’t yet booked, don’t hesitate too long or you might be out of luck! We still have limited availability on most of the tours for next year and you need to keep in mind that the Earlybird Discount of € 100 (for the two-week tours) or € 150 (for the three-week tours) is only available until midnight of Wednesday 31st December.

Finally, we would like to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and peaceful new year. We would also like to thank everyone who travelled with us in 2025 and especially those of you who have already booked for next year – we are looking forward to another exciting year of motorhome travel and to meeting our loyal customers and the many new customers during the trips next year!
