In our last newsletter we spoke to you about the travel situation in some European countries, that the campsites in Germany have reopened and that life is getting back to some sort of normality, even if it means socially distancing and wearing face masks! We are delighted to hear that the situation in the UK has also now improved and that travel is now possible. We have heard from many of our customers during the last couple of weeks telling us how much they are enjoying being able to get away again in their motorhomes.

As you already know, due to the uncertainty around European travel, both now and for the foreseeable future, and for the safety of our customers, we took the difficult decision to cancel all of our tours this year. It was a hard decision to make but we are still convinced that is was the right one. There are still travel restrictions and as new clusters of the virus can occur at anytime and anywhere, new quarantine requirements, or even border closures could be a result of this. There is however a real appetite for travel to restart and we would like to thank everyone who has already booked their tour(s) for next year.  Some of our tours are already over half full, so if you are interested in a particular tour, book early or risk being disappointed!

Last week we were informed by NCC Events (the organizers of the Motorhome & Caravan Show) that the show scheduled for this October has been cancelled due to the Covid 19 situation. Many restrictions would have been necessary, such as adhering to social distancing requirements, restricting attendance numbers, dictating the direction of people around the halls and exhibitors having to adhere to and control such restrictions on their stands  – all ultimately would have impacted negatively on the experience of those attending and therefore the very essence of the show. Even though this is the most important show for us during the year and it usually generates a lot of new customers and general interest in our tours, we fully understand and agree with this decision of NCC Events, especially as major contributors, like the Hymer Group and others had already pulled out of the show and in a survey NCC Events commissioned 69% of the participants responding said, they would not visit an indoor exhibition venue for six months after the lifting of the restrictions.

We only exhibit at 2 indoor shows in the UK – the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show in February and the Motorhome & Caravan Show in October, both of which take place at the NEC in Birmingham. The 3rd show we attend every year is the Western Motorhome show in Malvern in August. This is a great outdoor show where we usually meet many of our existing customers, as they like to stay at the campsite for several nights and attend not only the show during the day, but also visit the entertainment in the evening. This show has now also been cancelled by the organisers (Warner Shows) and replaced by The Malvern Motorhome & Campervan Sale. Exhibitors will be given extra space on their stand to be able to implement social distancing measures on their stand, the aisles will be widened and there will be bigger gaps between stands but unfortunately there will only be limited “wild camping” available (max. 600 units with no on-site facilities) and no entertainment. After long consideration we have however decided that, under these circumstances and with the on-going situation with Covid 19, that we will not be attending the show this year. Especially as the implemented measures do not help us, as we need to talk face to face to our customers and social distancing would prohibit or at least make it very difficult.

This means unfortunately that we will not be participating in any shows this year in the UK. The next opportunity for you to meet us in person will be at the Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show 2021, which we hope will take place as normal in February next year.
