In this newsletter we wanted to talk about our “Picturesque Provence” tour. We haven’t run this tour for a few years, and we are really looking forward to visiting this beautiful area of France again and hopefully being able to enjoy some sunshine.
Our “Picturesque Provence” tour takes you through a region of striking natural beauty and great diversity – with lavender meadows, oceans of vineyards and olive groves and the largest canyons in Europe and on the other hand lively cities and adorable villages with narrow cobblestone streets. Our tour starts in Avignon where you will have the chance to visit the beautiful city centre, the famous bridge and the historic popes’ palace. From there we travel to Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a town built from honey-coloured stone centred on a lovely plane-shaded square lined by cafes. South of the town, the rugged hills of Les Alpilles rise along the horizon, and one of Provence’s most impressive Roman ruins can be explored – the incredibly well-preserved ancient town of Glanum. From here we drive to the Roman city of Arles and you have time to visit the old town and famous Amphitheatre or take a trip into the Camargue. The tour continues to Moustiers Sainte-Marie, Manosque and through the Luberon with its pretty hilltop villages, fields of lavender and laid-back lifestyle. Towards the end of the tour we stay one night at a vineyard in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and enjoy a wine-tasting of the famous wines before driving through the scenic Ardéche. At the end of the tour it is possible to take an historic train ride through the Doux river valley. The tour also gives you the opportunity to visit some of the best markets in the Provence, for example in the charming “wedding cake” town of Gordes or in the towns of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Arles or Vallon-Pont-d’Arc, close to some of the campsites where we will be staying.
We always really enjoy this tour and so must one of our customers too as it is the second time, they have booked this tour with us. On this year’s tour we have a good mix of 1/3 first-time customers and 2/3 customers that have travelled with us before, but funny enough they have never been together on the same tour in previous years, so they do not know each other either. The tour is now almost full, so if you are interested you will need to book by the beginning of May – if we still have places available!
