Dogs on our escorted motorhome tours

Bella on the boat at Lake Tegernsee

Dog Team Bella & Team Judi

Last weekend we finished our 2023 Amazing Alpine Roads tour in Salzburg. We had two weeks of fun with a great group of people driving through the German and Austrian alps. As on most of our tours we also had two couples travelling with their dogs. Both had previously travelled with us on other tours and although they had not met before the dogs got on well together and as a result our customers did many things together. This triggered us to write a newsletter on the topic of travelling with your dog.

As you might know, our tours are dog friendly, and you can bring your four-legged friend with you on all of them. On the last tour we had some great weather with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures, which of course was very much appreciated by our customers. However, for dogs the temperatures can be a challenge. When our customers realized that most of the campsites that we choose also have a dog shower, they were very happy to be able to cool down their pet. Most places on our tours are dog friendly e.g. cable cars, public transport, restaurants or even electric rental boats, which Bella enjoyed on lake Tegernsee. But of course, there are always going to be places where dogs are not allowed e.g. castles or museums, or where a dog might need a muzzle. There is however always plenty to do outside like visiting the castle parks, or swimming in the lakes where dogs can have a great time and Audrey usually has a bag of treats ready in the motorhome as well.

We also help our customers if they have questions on what needs to be done to bring their dog to the touring region. Most customers know that their dog now requires an AHC (Animal Health Certificate) to travel to the the EU, but if for example, you are thinking of booking our tour to “Stunning Norway” (a country that is not in the EU), it has additional requirements, ie a tapeworm treatment 1 – 5 days before entry. We can help here by recommending a vet either in Denmark before crossing into Norway or in Germany, whichever fits your itinery.

The last sentence of this mail brings me to another service we offer to our customers. We can arrange an appointment for the necessary visit to the vet before you return to the UK. As we are also fluent in French, we can call a vet for you near Calais, or send an email for the appointment. Most customers prefer to see a vet in France, but we can also recommend vets in Germany on the journey home if this is more convenient.

Finally, we would like to remind you that you can meet us personally at the Motorhome & Caravan Show at the NEC in Birmingham which takes place from 17th – 22nd October 23. Our stand is located in hall 9, stand number 9.32! Many of our customers use our stand as meeting point and agree via WhatsApp with friends on the day and time.
