Boat trips on our 2024 tours

Boat for Rhine in Flames 2024 Königin Sylvia

As most of you probably already know, the concept of our tours is to show you the beauty of a relatively small region and to book the best campsites on the tour to be in good locations to visit the main points of interest in that area. But of course, we do not only book the campsites, but also book a Welcome Dinner for the first evening and one or two group events during a tour. By booking these events, we make sure that you do not miss out on special occasions which need to be booked well in advance. When deciding on what the group event will be we often choose a boat trip, as this is suitable for everyone.

Every year on the first Saturday in July, as one of the highlights on our “Majestic Rhine & Moselle Rivers” tour, we take part in “Rhine in Flames”, a traditional firework event on the Rhine. This week we were contacted by the organisers of the event, and we were able to choose which boat we would like to be put on. We decided we would like to enjoy the event again on the “Königin Silvia”, a ship we have been on in previous years. The boat can be seen on the above picture.  The advantage of this boat is that it has a very large open deck allowing us to have great views during the firework displays. In the early evening we leave Rüdesheim (a short walk from the campsite), and sail through the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Middle Rhine Valley, with its castles, historic towns and vineyards while enjoying a meal on the boat. At dusk we make the return journey in a convoy of about 50 illuminated boats, passing numerous large firework displays and blazing castles. It is a fascinating, romantic, and unforgettable evening.  On our website you can see a video of the event.

If you enjoy boat trips, then you may also be interested in our “Exciting Eastern Germany” tour, where we take a punting trip through the UNESCO Spreewald Biosphere Reserve, a one-of-a kind stretch of land in Germany. It takes us through an intricate network of streams past picturesque Spreewald villages, peaceful meadows and imposing forests, a unique habitat for numerous species of animals and plants, and we learn exciting facts about the sights, traditions, and customs of this unique region. The traditional flat-bottomed boats still shape the everyday lives of many Spreewald residents and for a long time it was their only means of transport.

On our “Stunning Norway” tour we take a trip with a full electrical boat with no noise or emissions disrupting the atmosphere of peace and tranquility through the Nærøyfjord, the narrowest Fjord in Norway and UNESCO World Heritage! The fjord has mostly stayed untouched in modern times and no road connections means the only way to properly explore it is by boat. From the fjord cruise you will have first class views to the spectacular landscape with old farms and idyllic fjord villages which has stayed the same for centuries. We begin our journey sailing through the idyllic Aurlandsfjord before the boat continues through the narrow Nærøyfjord finally arriving at Gudvangen before taking a bus back to Flam.

During our “Captivating Croatia” tour we also go on a boat trip where you can savor the diverse scenic beauty of the Cetina canyon on a relaxed upstream boat ride from Omiš, where our campsite is located. It is also a great opportunity to take photos of the protected nature of the magnificent Cetina canyon with its abundant diverse flora and fauna.

Even though we have no group event with a boat ride on the other tours, there is always a multitude of options to get on a boat, for example, on the Italian lakes where boats are used like taxis, or the lakes and rivers along Germany’s Romatic Road. On our “Discover Denmark” tour we do not have a boat trip either, but as there is endless coastline on our tour you could always decide to take a trip, for example, on a historic Viking boat, or just go on a Canal Cruise in Copenhagen.
